The Michigan Department of Transportation announced recently crews have now closed eastbound Interstate 696 from M-10 (Lodge Freeway/Northwestern Highway) to I-75, including all on and off ramps, for two years.
All eastbound I-696 traffic is being detoured via southbound M-10 (Lodge Freeway), eastbound M-8 (Davison Highway) and northbound I-75 back to eastbound I-696. Westbound traffic will be maintained during these two years.
The final phase of the Restore the Reuther project involves rebuilding I-696 in 2025-2026, while in 2027, I-696 will have major road work done between I-75 and Dequindre Road. Work includes rebuilding the roadway, bridge work and drainage structures.
As part of the project, 60 bridges will be repaired, including the rebuilding of the Church Street Plaza bridge that contains Victoria Park. During that rebuilding, a walkway detour will be in place.
Next year, westbound I-696 will be rebuilt from I-75 to Lahser Road. Project information is available at https://DrivingOakland.com/I696-East/.
Online hazmat endorsement available in Florida
Ancora Training, a workforce solutions provider, in partnership with Ancora Academy, has launched a new, online hazmat endorsement course for those enrolled at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ).
The new program provides learners at FSCJ, as well as members of the public who currently hold CDL-A, the opportunity to obtain their endorsement on their own schedule. Obtaining the hazmat endorsement has the potential to open doors to new employment possibilities with transportation companies who recognize the value of having a hazmat endorsement.
“This program is an incredible opportunity for students in the Northern Florida area to add a hazmat endorsement option to their current CDL license at a pace that fits their schedule and personal life,” said Natalie Williams, VP of Ancora Education. “With the continued shortage of CDL drivers nationwide, those who have an additional endorsement on their license can position themselves ahead of the curve.”
FSCJ’s new fully online hazmat endorsement course is part of a broader effort to support adult learners who are looking to enhance their current license and have an advantage in a dynamic job market over those who don’t have the add-on.
Through this partnership, students will receive easy access to training on their own time, allowing them to fit the course around their schedule. All training, instruction, and testing are conducted fully online through Ancora Academy, providing quality education and a practical experience.
