The employees at Capacity of Texas in Longview squeezed together Wednesday for a group photo outside of the company’s manufacturing facility on Capacity Drive.
A photographer began snapping pictures, and then Human Resources Manager Bonnie Youngblood had an idea. She asked employees to mark the reason they were there by holding up five fingers with one hand and zeros with the other hand.
Capacity of Texas is celebrating its 50th year of manufacturing trailer jockeys. LayMor sweepers also are manufactured at the plant. Trailer jockeys are used at ports, distribution centers and rail terminals, for instance, to move freight around.
In addition to the anniversary celebration, Capacity of Texas also marked completion of its 40,000th trailer jockey.
The Longview plant employs 135 people. Lupe Tijerina is the longest serving employee at 33 years. He is the lead on the assembly line.
“We’ve come a long way from when I started here. The vehicles have gotten a lot better, a lot easier to manage and work on,” he said.
The vehicles manufactured there are now powered in a variety of ways, including battery-operated electric vehicles and hydrogen-powered electric vehicles as well as some that are propane- and CNG- powered.
“We are heavily focused on electrification,” said Vikas Kataria, director of engineering.
