Not feeling the love this Valentine’s Day?
Don’t worry. There are ways to celebrate — and not wallow in — your loneliness during the upcoming weekend of love which begins on Friday.
From feeding your ex to sea lions to buying yourself flowers, there are plenty of ways to embrace being single during Valentine’s Day.
‘Dead to me’ flowers
If there is nobody to buy you flowers this year, buy them for yourself!
At Urban Stems, an online florist that delivers fresh bouquets with next- or same-day shipping, there are many different Valentine’s Day flowers for sale.
But for the single crowd, one specific bouquet might mend a broken heart: The “Dead to Me” arrangement. The anti-Valentine’s Day bouquet features dark hues and a somber color palate that sets the vibe for a stay-at-home Valentine’s Day.
And as extra consolation, the flowers can be bought for 20% off using the code “VDAYHEAT” on the Urban Stems site.
Get back at your ex. Feed them to a zoo animal!
Zoos across the country are chipping in to help single folks get over their breakups. As a harmless way to find some catharsis and get some revenge, you can name critters at zoos after your exes — and then they will be fed to zoo animals.
The San Antonio Zoo in Texas’ Cry me a Cockroach Campaign gives you the option of a cockroach ($10), pre-frozen rodents ($25) and vegetables ($5). Donors will receive a Valentine’s Day card and a video of a zoo animal following their donation.
At the Columbus Zoo, you can use $15 to give your ex’s name to a superworm, which will be fed to a sloth bear.
If your ex is bugging you, the Bronx Zoo in New York has you covered. For $15, the zoo will name a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach after your not-so-loved one.
And if your ex was always up to something fishy, the Lehigh Valley Zoo in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, will name a fish after an ex and feed it to a resident African penguin. Donors receive a video of the penguin eating the fish they named.
Galentine’s Day
Who needs lovers when you have your friends?
Galentine’s Day, the unofficial celebration of friendship in response to Valentine’s Day, takes place on Thursday, one day before Valentine’s Day. The origin of the day can be traced back to the sitcom “Parks and Rec,” which aired its Galentine’s Day episode in 2010. Since then, the event has grown in popularity.
Dozens of Detroit businesses are offering Galentine’s Day specials, like Carbon Athletic Club in Detroit, Pop’s for Italian in Ferndale, and Three Cats Cafe in Clawson.

If you can’t get out for Galentine’s Day dinner or brunch, et your girlfriends together and catch a movie, have a meal, name some cockroaches after your exes or buy yourselves some flowers.
Anything is better than wallowing alone this Valentine’s Day.
