The driver of a tractor-trailer who authorities say failed to slow down for stopped traffic on Interstate 70 in Ohio last November has been arrested and faces 26 counts in connection with the accident.
Jacob McDonald, 61, was charged with six counts of vehicular homicide, nine counts of vehicular assault, and 11 counts of misdemeanor assault in connection with the Nov. 14 accident in central Ohio. He is to be arraigned July 30.
The preliminary report by the National Traffic Safety Bureau said traffic on westbound I-70 was stopped for an earlier accident, when McDonald failed to stop and hit a Nissan Murano before colliding with the rear of a charter bus loaded with student musicians headed to Columbus. The bus then struck a Toyota Highlander, which struck anothjer tractor-trailer. The bus eventually also hit the second tractor-trailer.
The collision caused a fire in McDonald’s truck, the Nissan and the charter bus.
Six people died in the crash. They included:
- John W. Mosley, 18, of Mineral City
- Jeffery D. Worrell, 18, of Bolivar
- Katelyn N. Owens, 15, of Mineral City
- Dave Kennat, 56, of Navarre
- Kristy Gaynor, 39, of Zoar
- Shannon Wigfield, 45, of Bolivar
McDonald was tested at the scene after the crash for impairment but none was found.
