Police have charged a truck driver in a hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a tow truck operator on Highway 401 earlier this month.
On Dec. 3 at 7:18 a.m., members of the Oxford detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, along with paramedic and fire services, responded to a fail-to-remain collision in the westbound lanes of Highway 401, west of Oxford Road 3 in the Township of Blandford-Blenheim.
Emergency crews located a tow truck operator who had been struck by an unknown vehicle while assisting a motorist. The 42-year-old man from Kitchener, Ont., was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police sought the public’s assistance in identifying the commercial motor vehicle and its occupant or occupants. On Dec. 5, police announced they had located the vehicle and identified the driver.
On Dec. 22, police arrested and charged Sandeep Singh, 32, of Mount Hope, Ont., with dangerous operation causing death and failure to stop after an accident resulting in death. The charges have not been proved in court.
Singh was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock, Ont., on Jan. 27, 2026.
