
Maverick Transportation recently announce their newest veteran tribute truck driver is Darryl Hammond, who was the company’s 2022 Dedicated Driver of the Year, is an Army veteran and road trainer. He is now the 11th driver to pilot a Maverick “Salute” truck.
Hammond has been a Maverick driver for almost 19 years and has achieved a number of accomplishments during that time. Since starting with Maverick, he has trained over 59 student drivers, was a Dedicated Driver of the Month and was named Maverick’s 2022 Dedicated Driver of the Year.
When asked about the opportunity to drive the latest Salute truck, Hammond said, “I am so proud to be a part of this. This is such an honor.”
When asked what keeps him motivated, Darryl complimented his wife of 17 years by saying, “She is my rock and makes me a better person.”
The “Salute” veteran tribute truck was first introduced in 2018 with the goal of portraying honor and pride in our military veterans and active-duty service members. Its distinctive vinyl wrap portrays each branch of the United States military and images that show a peek into our history. Maverick currently has five veteran drivers that operate Salute trucks.
Salute drivers participate in Veterans Day events each November and other veteran-focused events throughout the year.
Founded in 1980, based in North Little Rock, Arkansas, and operating over 1,600 units, Maverick provides OTR and dedicated services to the flatbed, glass, marine and specialized transportation markets throughout North America.
