Mark Lynn Peterson, 68, of Shell Rock, passed away from natural causes on Monday, May 19, 2025, at the Allison Rehabilitation Center, Allison, Iowa.
Mark was born June 14, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the fourth child of Gerald and Charlotte Peterson. Mark’s education was through the Des Moines and Waverly-Shell Rock schools, after which Mark attended Hawkeye Tech. Mark lived in Colorado for a year and then returned to Iowa, working at IBP in Storm Lake for several years. He then returned to Waverly to work for his parents’ theatre business, managing the theatres in Manchester, Monticello, Anamosa and the Waverly indoor theatre. After Mark’s parents’ passing, Mark worked as the shipping and handling foreman for Kay Park in Janesville, retiring after 20 years of service in 2020.
Mark is survived by his daughters Gwen Peterson of Ironwood, Minnesota, and Ayla Peterson of Iowa City; grandchildren Hastin, Theodrick and Aeowin; sisters Judy (Dan) Key of Friendswood, Texas, Janet Westendorf (ED) of Waverly, Donna Smith and friend Bob Forrester of Minneapolis, and Diane Shield (Pat) of Waverly, brothers Lon (Karen) of Shell Rock and Gene of Dysart. Mark was preceded in death by his father Gerald in 1996, his mother Charlotte in 1998 and nephew Scott Kryder of Texas. Mark has been cremated with inurnment taking place in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly in a private family ceremony.
