Manitoba will require all regulated vehicles that need a safety fitness certificate for operations to display the registered owner’s National Safety Code (NSC) number as of July 1, 2025. The regulation applies to in-province and out-of-province operators traveling on Manitoba’s roads and highways.
While the requirement applies to power units, including trucks and truck tractors, it does not extend to semi-trailers.
Under Part 3 of the Regulated Vehicles (Safety Fitness, Operator Identification and Records and Vehicle Exemptions) Regulation, regulated vehicle operators must ensure that the registered operator’s name, logo, or a distinctive mark is displayed in a conspicuous location on each lateral side of the vehicle.
The NSC number must also be clearly indicated on both sides. Each letter or figure must be a minimum of five centimeters in height and width and must contrast with the background for visibility.
Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure recommends that the registered operator’s identification markings be the most prominent when multiple company names or logos appear on a single vehicle. It also suggests clearly identifying the NSC number by preceding it with ‘NSC #:,’ ‘NSC:,’ or ‘NSC No.:’
