How much does gas cost in Washington right now?
The Evergreen State had the third-highest gasoline prices in the nation as of Monday, trailing behind California and Hawaii, according to AAA.
A number of factors are sending fuel prices skyrocketing across the United States.
Here’s what to know:
How much does gas cost in Washington?
As of Monday, a gallon of regular gasoline in Washington cost about $5.33 on average, according to AAA.
That’s $1.34 more expensive than the national average, the automobile association said.
Over the past week, gas prices in the Evergreen State increased about 5 cents on average, AAA said, rising nearly $1 — 97 cents — in the past month.
Around this time in 2025, gas cost about $4.17 per gallon in Washington state, according to AAA.
As of Monday, California had the priciest fuel in the nation, with regular gasoline averaging $5.87 a gallon, the automobile association said.
Why are gas prices so high right now?
The war in Iran is pushing up prices for everything from fuel to food, The Associated Press previously reported.
As of Monday, the Strait of Hormuz was closed to shipping in response to air strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel, halting trade and sending crude oil costs soaring.
Crude oil is the main ingredient used to make gasoline and diesel — and about half of the price for gas comes from the cost of crude oil, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
Gas stations’ annual switch to summer-blend gasoline is also pushing prices higher in Washington state.

Residents in Pacific County in Southwest Washington can expect to pay the most for gas, AAA said, with stations charging $5.61 a gallon on average.
