If your trucking travels take you through Pennsylvania, be aware there’s a major police mobilization aimed at motorists including truckers under way for much of the rest of the summer.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced recently that more than 80 municipal police departments from Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties will join the Pennsylvania State Police in what the department called “a coordinated aggressive driving enforcement wave.”
Pennsylvania’s special enforcement effort comes as the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s Operation Safe Driver Week also focuses on driving behavior. The week begins Monday, July 14 and continues through Saturday, Aug. 19.
PennDOT said the collective effort, which is part of a statewide mobilization running through Aug. 17, is aimed at reducing the number of crashes, injuries, and fatalities on highways,
The enforcement wave will target heavy truck violations, pedestrian safety, red light running, speeding, and tailgating, according to the department. Motorists demonstrating unsafe behaviors, such as driving too fast for conditions or other aggressive actions, will also be cited.
Law enforcement will use traffic enforcement zones, saturation patrols, speed enforcement details, corridor enforcement, work zone enforcement, and multi-jurisdictional patrols to identify and cite aggressive drivers, PennDOT said in a statement.
