Trucking will be thrust into the spotlight of the race to select the Republican presidential nominee next week when a dark horse candidate makes it the focus of a campaign stop in Iowa.
Wealthy biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy plans to announce his policies on trucking and truckers at the Iowa 80 Trcuk Stop in Walcott, Iowa, home of the annual Truckers Jamboree at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21. Ramaswamy will be joined by officials from the Florida-based trucking organization, CDL Drivers Unlimited.
Ramaswamy reportedly said he will “lay out my detailed plan for how we support our truckers and ensure freedom for all,” at what is being billed as a “Truck Driver Summitt.”

Truckers wishing to attend the event must register with CDLDU. The registration says the event’s limited seating in the truck stop’s theater is reserved for truckers from Iowa.
The Iowa caucuses are scheduled for Jan. 15 in the state’s 99 counties. In the most recent polls, Ramaswamy trails former President Donald Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley,
