Saving the bacon: Firefighters help a stranded truck with a piggish conundrum
The first responders in Kansas are credited with saving the lives of more than 1,300 piglets

Firefighters in Overland Park, Kansas, really saved the bacon on Thursday, Aug. 10.Fire officials said shortly before 11 a.m., crews from the Overland Park Fire Department were called to assist a stranded livestock trailer on U.S. 69 Highway.So, why call fire crews to help a stranded truck?That’s because this one was full of piglets being taken to Iowa.The driver told emergency crews and police, who initially responded, that the pigs would not survive without either airflow or water. Police called the fire department in to help with wetting down the pigs — keeping them cool and hydrated — until another tractor could pick up the trailer.
