A truck driver stole a bobtail semi truck after being fired and then led police on a chase through multiple counties in Wisconsin over the weekend.
The incident occurred on Friday, August 25th when 47-year-old Michael Steven Jones was fired from his job in Chippewa County, Wisconsin.
According to WKOW News, Jones began “flipping out” after getting fired, which prompted him to steal a semi truck while a woman was getting her belongings out of it. Jones took the truck with the woman inside and began a “reckless” journey while fleeing police.
The chase continued through Chippewa County and into Wisconsin Dells, even after officers deployed multiple spike strips. The woman called 911 from inside the truck and pleaded for help, but Jones would not stop to let her out. The truck eventually caught fire near the US 12 exit on I-90/94 eastbound, and Jones crashed into a ditch.
Jones then tried to flee the scene, and even kicked out the glass on a police cruiser, but was eventually caught.
Jones is facing multiple charges, including false imprisonment, attempting to flee or elude an officer, and recklessly endangering safety. If convicted of all charges, Jones may face up to 33 years in prison and $90,000 in fines.
