New Jersey State Police seized more than 300 pounds of marijuana hidden in the cargo hold of a box truck during an inspection at a Knowlton Township facility, authorities said.
Ian Munringayi, 42, of Texas, is charged with first-degree possession with an intent to distribute marijuana, third-degree hindering apprehension, and fourth-degree marijuana possession.
The charges against Munringayi were announced Tuesday by the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office. Court records show the charges were filed Monday.
The marijuana at about 2 p.m. Monday was discovered during an inspection of the cargo hold at the Knowlton Township Truck Weigh Station along Interstate 80. Authorities said Munringayi was driving from Chicago to The Bronx, New York.
During the inspection, Munringayi gave authorities a fake international driver’s license, police said.
Munringayi was recently released from Warren County jail, pending further court hearings. No attorney information was listed for him in court records.
First-degree charges carry a maximum potential sentence of 20 years in prison.
