A Tennessee Department of Transportation salt truck driver was taken to the hospital after his salt truck was side-swiped by a semi-trailer truck on Interstate 40 on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
According to TDOT Region 3 Community Relations Officer Rebekah Hammonds, the salt truck driver said a semi-trailer truck side-swiped him on I-40, sending both vehicles through the guardrail. The salt truck driver went to the hospital and received x-rays but is expected to be fine.
“This is why we encourage drivers to slow down and give our trucks space while treating and plowing roads,” Hammonds said.
Dickson County Sheriff’s Office public information officer Lt. Jennifer Caruthers said the Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to the crash, but an accident report could not be obtained from the THP at press time.
Salt trucks and snow removal vehicles have been in operation on local thoroughfares since a winter storm dropped eight inches of snow on Dickson County beginning last Sunday, Jan. 14.
