As Hurricane Francine hammers the Gulf Coast, Mississippi joins Louisiana in declaring an emergency triggering a waiver of hours of service regulations for truckers providing disaster assistance.
The executive order by Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves went into effect on Tuesday Sept. 10, and provides a temporary waiver from hours of service regulations for 14 days, or until ended.
The order does not apply to motor carriers that have an out of service order and does not allow ill or fatigued drivers to operate a motor vehicle.
The order terminates when the driver or motor carrier’s direct assistance to the emergency relief effort ends.
NY CDL program receives $50,000
The State University of New York Canton announced it recently received a $50,000 gift from the Garrett Family Fund to purchase a 2016 Freightliner Cascadia 125 and new trailers for its Commercial Driver’s License program.
This gift was the latest in a series of donations given by Carthage, New York native and 1972 SUNY Canton graduate Donald F. Garrett and his wife, Jamie Rhoads Garrett.
“We are honored by Don and Jamie’s continued support of our college’s initiatives,” said Vice President for Advancement Tracey Thompson Hastings. “Their donations have paved the way for new opportunities for students in the Canino School of Engineering Technology and now will help fund our thriving continuing education and workforce development programs.”
The CDL program has expanded its classes now including CDL-B and CDL-B to A tracks.
