The Trucking Cares Foundation and TXTA (Texas Trucking Association) Foundation have announced they are partnering to support the Dell Children’s Foundation.
Together, the two trucking foundations seek to raise $50,000 for this Austin-based charity, which is located in this year’s host city for ATA’s 2023 Management Conference & Exhibition.
The Dell Children’s Foundation helps to ensure that no child is ever turned away from receiving the medical care provided by Dell Children’s Medical Center. Roughly 70% of Dell Children’s patients are under-insured or uninsured. Every dollar donated via TCF and TXTA will go directly to Dell Children’s Foundation. This fundraising initiative will conclude the evening of Tuesday, October 17th, the last day of MCE.
Dell Children’s offers a free-standing children’s hospital in Austin and over 90 specialty care locations across central Texas. Families have access to more than 270 pediatric specialists and care teams in 39 pediatric specialties.
Joe Harris honored by Southwest Movers
The Southwest Movers Association recently announced Joe Harris as the 2023 Heritage Award recipient.
The award recognizes a member who has made significant contributions to the moving industry and the association.
“Joe Harris has been a longtime member of SMA for over 20 years and is a true leader and mentor. We are proud to be able to honor him with this award and thank him for his years of excellence in the moving industry,” said SMA Executive Director John D. Esparza.
Harris is a third-generation mover. His grandfather started Harris Moving & Storage Company in 1939 in the downtown Houston area. After graduating from Texas A&M University in 1982, Harris began working full-time at Harris Moving and Storage.
Among Harris’ was moving former President George H. Bush 16 times during his political career.
SMA is a trade association representing the household goods moving industry in Texas.
FedEx Freight rules at TMC SuperTech competition
Doug Nickles, a FedEx Freight technician from East Moline, Illinois, was crowned TMCSuperTech Grand Champion here at the American Trucking Associations’ Technology & Maintenance Council’s National Technicians Skills Competition.
“Winning TMCSuperTech is a tremendous achievement and clearly demonstrates Doug’s dedication to service and professionalism,” said TMC Executive Director Robert Braswell. “As always, this competition brings out the best in our industry and Doug, and the rest of his FedEx Freight teammates rose to the occasion, providing real examples of the knowledge and skills needed to keep this industry moving.”
Nickles was joined by fellow FedEx Freight technician, 2019 TMCSuperTech Grand Champion Kelby Bentley, in winning the team title at this year’s competition.
FedEx Freight’s Wesley Salley, Round Rock, Texas, placed second and Bentley placed third giving FedEx Freight a clean sweep of the podium.
Elsewhere in the competition, Timothy Rose, a student at Ferris State University, won the TMCFutureTech National Student Technician Skills Competition, with fellow Bulldog Maxwell Chatman finishing second and Northwest Technical Institute’s Joshua Waldrep placing third.
In the TMCSuperTech Light and Medium Vehicle track competition, FedEx Freight’s Philip Barlow repeated as champion, with Zachary Nikorak and Alan Snyder, both of Cox Automotive Mobility, finishing second and third respectively.
FedEx Freight’s Cory Westfall also repeated as champion of the TMCSuperTech Trailer Track competition, with Michael Kerfoot Jr., of Cox Automotive placing second for a second straight year and Issac Perez of FedEx Freight placing third.
