Chennai: It was a close shave for a driver after his truck transporting chemicals caught fire near Nazarathpet early Sunday. Ashish, 32, from West Bengal, was transporting the chemical (thinner) in his container truck to a private factory. He parked the vehicle on the company premise and workers began transferring the chemical cans from his truck to another vehicle. One can accidentally fell off, and the vehicle caught fire. Those present attempted to extinguish the fire, but it spread rapidly and ignited another truck nearby. The blaze was extinguished quickly. To prevent the fire from spreading to a parking lot nearby that had 40 heavy vehicles and across the company, the driver drove the burning truck and parked it on the service road adjacent to Chennai-Bengaluru national highway. Other drivers alerted fire services control room. Soon, fire engines from Poonamallee, Ambattur, Maduravoyal, JJ Nagar, Avadi, Koyambedu and Irungattukottai arrived to battle the blaze, which lasted for nearly four hours. Police registered a case. When the burning truck was moved to the service road, chemicals spilled onto the road and caught fire.tnn
