As International Women’s Day approaches on March 8, Trucking HR Canada (THRC) has launched its Women’s Leadership Accord. Fourteen organizations were recognized for their efforts in recruiting, retaining, and supporting women in the trucking and logistics industry during THRC’s annual Women with Drive conference on March 6 in Toronto.
The Accord highlights companies that have demonstrated a commitment to workplace equity and the advancement of women in the sector. The initiative is supported by Women and Gender Equality Canada, and Women’s Trucking Federation of Canada (WTFC) is Accord’s project partner.

“Today our stage was filled with representatives of organizations that recognize that attracting the best and most qualified talent — half of whom are female career seekers — is vital to ensuring our sector remains competitive now and into the future,” said Angela Splinter, CEO of Trucking HR Canada. “This new Accord is a way to celebrate those organizations’ accomplishments — and also a way we can support others who want to advance their workplace equity objectives with tools and resources they can use right away.”
The 14 inaugural signatories include the following fleets:
- Armour Transportation Systems
- Arnold Bros.
- Bison Transport
- Canada Cartage
- Classic Freight Transport
- Eassons Transportation Group
- GX Transportation Solutions Inc.
- J.D. Irving
- Kriska Transportation Group
- Linde
- Loblaw Transport
- Musket Transport
- Polaris Transportation Group
- XTL Transport
The Accord is built on four pillars — gender equity, inclusivity, safety, and empowerment — reflecting key concerns raised by industry stakeholders, THRC said during one of its panels during the conference. It added that the launch follows THRC’s discussions and research about the challenges and progress in diversifying the sector, as the industry leaders said there is a need for flexible work schedules, family-friendly policies, and stronger mentorship programs to support women entering and advancing in trucking.
Fleets can qualify for the Women’s Leadership Accord’s Certificate of Excellence — an optional, additional program — through two pathways. Participants in THRC’s Top Fleet Employer (TFE) program can earn the certification by achieving top marks in their gender equity assessment. Non-TFE participants can complete a 15-question online pulse check to demonstrate their commitment to the program’s strategic areas and workplace equity goals.
The next signatory event and certificate awards will be held at the Western Women with Drive event in Calgary on April 30.
