Seventy volunteers from across the Trucks for Change (T4C) network gathered Oct. 23 to support the Daily Bread Food Bank in Toronto, participating in a spirited food sort challenge. In just three hours, participants sorted the equivalent of 21,600 meals, combining community service with team-building and networking opportunities.
“Our network members are already leading the way in helping tackle hunger by shipping food for trusted charity partners across the country,” said T4C executive director Betsy Sharples in a news release. “But by participating in a food sort, participants also got to see the inner workings of a food bank and get insight into the incredible work they do in communities.”

The event included volunteers from 13 transportation companies and sponsor. Teams competed for awards such as the “Heart and Hustle” for enthusiasm, and the “Teamwork Triumph” for group performance, with a special gold medal from Daily Bread awarded to the top-sorting team.
As Canadian families increasingly rely on food banks, with Daily Bread Food Bank seeing 330,000 client visits each month—up from 60,000 before the pandemic—the T4C network remains committed to its mission of alleviating food insecurity. The organization supports this mission by providing transport logistics for charities and hosting volunteering events across the year to engage the trucking industry in social responsibility.
Companies that participated in the challenge include: Bison Transport, Erb Transport, Isaac Instruments, J.D. Smith, Kriska Transportation, Left Lane Associates, Navistar Canada, Northbridge Insurance, Polaris Transport, Revolution Staffing, Tandet Group, Transcourt Tank Leasing, and Volvo Trucks.
