The deadline to nominate a driver for Goodyear’s 2024 Highway Hero has been extended through Feb. 28.
A grand prize winner and up to two finalists will be chosen from the field of nominees, Goodyear said. Each will receive a cash prize, with the winner also receiving a ride in the famed Goodyear Blimp.
Online Highway Hero nominations to honor a truck driver who went the extra mile can be made here.
“Commercial truck drivers are not only at the center of the supply chain industry, but they also act as vigilant guardians of the roads, ready to assist others in need,” said Joe Burke, vice president of Goodyear North America Commercial business.
Last year, Goodyear named Timothy VanNostrand and Elijah Ramos as the winners of its Highway Hero Award.
VanNostrand, an OOIDA member from Northville, N.Y., received the award for his actions helping police apprehend a suspect after a traffic stop by a New York State Trooper turned into a shootout. Ramos, a driver for Ryder System Inc., earned the honor for assisting a motorist who had crashed her SUV in a remote desert area.
To be eligible for Goodyear’s Highway Hero Award, a nominee must be a full-time commercial driver with a valid CDL, reside in the U.S. or Canada and be actively operating a commercial, infrastructure, vocational or non-lifesaving emergency vehicle with a rim size greater than 19 inches.
The driver must have been on the job at the time of the heroic act, which must have occurred in 2023.
Goodyear said the Highway Hero award is one way the Akron, Ohio-based company recognizes the growth and importance of the commercial trucking industry. LL
