Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy slammed the sentence given a truck driver who was involved in an accident that killed three people.
In a social media post Wednesday Duffy said:
“5 years is a slap on the wrist for KILLING 3 AMERICANS
“If California followed the rules, illegal aliens like Jashanpreet Singh wouldn’t be driving 80,000 pound missiles down our roads
“We won’t stop until ALL illegal truckers are put out of business and held accountable”
Duffy was referring to the sentence of four years and eight months given to Jashanpreet Singh, who pleaded guilty to three counts of vehicular manslaughter in connection with a crash in October of 2025 on the 10 Freeway in California. Three people died and four others were injured.
Singh was reportedly in the country illegally since 2022. He had a commercial driver’s license issued by California at the time of the crash.
I-205 closings planned in Oregon
Northbound Interstate 205 and the on-ramp from OR 43 to northbound I-205 will be closed Friday and Saturday nights for concrete pouring at Abernethy Bridge between West Linn and Oregon City.
Southbound I-205 will remain open. We expect each night’s closure to last from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Detours:
- Northbound traffic can use Interstate 5 to travel through Portland, and northbound traffic can reach areas north of Oregon City using Interstate 84.
- Local traffic can use the Arch Bridge on OR 43 to cross the river.
- Southbound I-205 lanes will remain open.
Only one direction of I-205 will be closed for each of these nights. The next overnight closures for concrete pouring on the Abernethy Bridge are scheduled for the nights of:
- Friday, July 24 – northbound I-205
- Saturday, July 25 – southbound I-205
Schedules can change due to weather and other factors.
Concrete pouring will require overnight closures through the rest of this summer in the I-205 corridor and Abernethy Bridge Project.
Used truck prices beat expectations
June preliminary Class 8 same dealer used truck retail sales picked up 11% month over month in June, according to the latest preliminary release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks published by ACT Research.
“The gain was larger than expected based on historical seasonality, which called for a 2% m/m increase. Auction sales sank 22%, uncharacteristic compared to the normal 35% end-of-quarter surge,” said Steve Tam, Vice President at ACT Research. “The wholesale segment claimed the middle ground, shedding 12% m/m. Total reported preliminary sales finished May down 6.6% m/m. The significant disconnect in the auction market bears watching; the concern being that it could be a bellwether for the broader industry.
“The preliminary average retail price (same dealer sales) of used Class 8 trucks made great strides in June, adding 5.0% m/m to top $61,000. Pricing once again easily defeated seasonal expectations, which called for no change.”
ACT’s Classes 3-8 Used Truck report provides data on the average selling price, miles, and age based on a sample of industry data. In addition, the report provides the average selling price for top-selling Class 8 models for each of the major truck OEMs.
