An armored Brinks truck driver was shot on Thursday afternoon during a robbery outside of a Philadephia Bank of America, according to reports.
The incident occurred in the driveway of the bank branch, located along the 1900 block of South Christopher Columbus Boulevard, at around 2:30 p.m.
It was previously reported by police that the driver was shot once in the head, but that was later clarified that the 24-year-old victim was actually shot in the chest.
The incident occurred when the Brinks truck driver pulled up to make a delivery to the bank’s ATM. When the driver got out of the car, a gold-colored sedan backed up in front of the truck, blocking the driver from leaving, Philly Voice said.
Out hopped two suspects from the sedan, armed with at least one gun between them. From there, a struggle with the driver ensued, and shots were fired at the driver that struck him in the chest.
During the struggle, the suspects’ gun fell apart so they took the truck driver’s gun. They also were able to steal a bag of an undisclosed amount of money and got away, 6ABC reported.
The truck driver was wearing a ballistic vest, but the bullet missed the vest, and he was shot in a part of his chest just to the side of the vest.
The driver was transported to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and is in critical condition, Philly Voice reported.
Right now, authorities believe there was a third suspect who was driving the sedan, which was last spotted on Snyder Avenue, the outlet said.
So far, no arrests have been made.
