Multiple sports teams from the Philadelphia area came together to donate money to benefit the family of a tanker truck driver killed in the crash that caused I-95 to collapse earlier this month.
Philadelphia sports teams the Flyers, Eagles, 76ers, Union, and Phillies came together to donate $50,000 to create a trust for the seven year old daughter of truck driver Nathaniel Moody, according to 6abc.
“We are all honored to be a part of this donation. No gesture will bring Nathan back, but we hope this brings a small bit of solace for the family during this incredibly difficult time,” the teams said.
Moody passed away on June 11 after crashing while negotiating a turn on an I-95 ramp in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The crash and vehicle fire caused a portion of the I-95 overpass to collapse. Moody was hauling more than 8000 gallons of gasoline when the crash occurred.
The interstate reopened with a temporary repair last Friday. The mascots of the Philadelphia sports teams were on hand to celebrate the reopening of the interstate.
According to a GoFundMe benefiting the family, 53 year old Moody was a military veteran and father of three. Nearly $41,000 worth of donations have come into the GoFundMe.
