There’s a new competition to recognize great professional drivers.
Samsara, a provider of fleet management and driver safety solutions, recently announced it is staging a competition to recognize exceptional drivers.
The Samsara Driver Cup is a new nationwide competition that uses real driving data to celebrate and reward top professional drivers in the U.S.
The Samsara Driver Cup launches May 18 and gives drivers multiple chances to earn their title as one of the top drivers in the country, something they can carry with them throughout their career. Hundreds of thousands of drivers will compete, and the top 1% will earn prizes up to $1,000 during each leg of the competition:
The competition is open to U.S.-based Samsara customers who have been on the platform for at least six months. If your organization qualifies, your drivers are already in and they don’t need to take any extra steps to participate. Samsara handles scoring, selection, and prize distribution automatically.
Samsara will score drivers across three categories, with scores accounting for factors like route type, shift length, and vehicle type to make sure that everyone is competing fairly against each other.
The three categories are:
-
Safety Consistency Champion goes to the most consistently safe drivers on Samsara’s platform, scored on event-free miles, speeding, mobile phone usage, and coaching completion. Instead of looking for a one-time perfect score, Samsara said it wants to reward consistency over time.
-
HOS Compliance Champion recognizes the drivers with the best hours-of-service records on Samsara’s platform, measured by hours of violation relative to total driving time.
-
Efficiency Champion rewards the drivers saving the most fuel compared to the average for their specific vehicle make, model, year, and engine type across Samsara’s platform.
Samsara explains what’s behind the competiton:
Drivers that feel appreciated are safer, more engaged, and more likely to stay at a company. Well-recognized employees are 45% less likely to leave their jobs and 83% of employees feel more engaged when their work is rewarded. But recognition at scale is hard to do well, especially when you’re managing hundreds of drivers across different routes, shifts, and vehicle types.
The Samsara Driver Cup is designed to make that easier. Fleet managers get a structured, data-driven way to recognize their best drivers without creating extra work, and it gives drivers something tangible to compete for and be proud of. When drivers know their safe miles, clean HOS records, and fuel efficiency are being measured and rewarded, those behaviors tend to strengthen over time. That could mean fewer incidents, lower fuel costs, and better compliance across your fleet.
Samsara said most of the work is already done for drivers to participate. If your organization qualifies, your drivers are automatically entered. Here are four steps to make sure everything is in place before the competition kicks off.
