Mack Trucks announced the availability of Mack ImpactShield, the first use of Corning Fusion5 Glass in a Class 8 heavy-duty truck. Standard on the all-new Mack Granite, the windshield is designed to improve durability, damage resistance and total cost of ownership.
The all-new Mack Granite, unveiled at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2026, features a galvanized steel cab, 270-degree radar coverage, Electronic Park Brake with rollaway protection and a redesigned interior developed with driver input. The one-piece bonded curved ImpactShield windshield is designed to support durability and uptime in vocational applications.
Windshield Technology and Performance
Corning Fusion5 Glass was developed for automotive exterior applications and is engineered to resist impacts and environmental wear. In heavy-duty truck applications, the technology is intended to help reduce windshield damage and maintenance costs.
Compared with a standard Class 8 windshield, Mack said the ImpactShield provides:
- Two times better sharp impact resistance
- Two times better thermal shock resistance
- Five times better scratch resistance
- Improved resistance to weathering and environmental wear
- Reduced weight
- Improved defrost performance
“Mack customers don’t have time for unplanned stops,” said Tim Wrinkle, vice president, product owner, vocational and medium duty at Mack. “Partnering with Corning to bring Fusion5 Glass to heavy-duty trucking is about helping customers keep trucks on the job and control costs.”
The bonded curved windshield design is intended to improve durability compared with conventional glass, reducing unplanned service events and replacement costs over the life of the vehicle.
Corning, maker of Gorilla Glass, collaborated with Mack to adapt the technology for heavy-duty truck applications.

Availability
The Mack ImpactShield windshield will be standard on the all-new Mack Granite, which is scheduled to be available for order in the second half of 2026. Production is expected to begin in January 2027 at Mack’s Lehigh Valley Operations facility in Macungie, Pennsylvania.
