Twelve victories for the first time. An outright conference championship for the first time in 70 years. A berth in the College Football Playoff for the first time ever.
In a season for the ages, Texas Tech football guaranteed all of the above with its 34-7 takedown of BYU in the Big 12 championship game on Saturday, Dec. 6.
And the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal has produced a page print and will publish a hardcover collector’s book to commemorate the Red Raiders’ championship season. The page print features the big headline CHAMPS! and a stunning photo of linebacker Ben Roberts celebrating after the title game. The book is titled “RED REIGN: The Inside Story of Texas Tech’s First Big 12 Football Championship.” Before it’s finished, maybe “Big 12” will be replaced with “National!”

“RED REIGN” will chronicle how Texas Tech dominated the Big 12, won 11 regular-season games by at least three touchdowns and claimed its first outright conference title since 1955 in the old Border Conference.
It’s all here: The top 10 November showdown against BYU that cemented Texas Tech as a playoff contender. The 49-0 demolition of West Virginia that closed an 11-1 regular season. The unforgettable moment when the Red Raiders hoisted the Big 12 trophy in the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium.
Plus: The premium book will include full coverage of the College Football Playoff, wherever that takes Texas Tech. “RED REIGN” also will be packed with exclusive photography, behind-the-scenes access and game-by-game coverage of Jacob Rodriguez, Behren Morton, Cameron Dickey and the team that made history. Two days before the second BYU game, Rodriguez was selected the Big 12’s defensive player of the year. One day before the game, he won the Butkus Award as the country’s top collegiate linebacker.
“RED REIGN!” retails for $39.95 but order now for a 10% discount. (That’s $35.95, plus tax and shipping.) Although the book won’t be finished until after the season (and maybe a championship parade!), gift vouchers are available right now for holiday gift-giving.
Whether you’ve been a Red Raiders fan for decades or just arrived for the greatest season in program history, this book belongs on your coffee table. And the page print belongs on your wall.
