The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has extended the time period during which the paper copy of medical examiner’s certificates are valid.
On July 14 the FMCSA issued a temporary waiver allowing interstate commercial driver’s license holders, commercial learner’s permit holders, and motor carriers to continue relying on a paper copy of the medical examiner’s certificate as proof of medical certification for up to 15 days after the certificate was issued. Today, the agency modified the waiver to allow CDL holders, CLP holders, and motor carriers to rely on the paper copy of the medical examiner’s certificate as proof of the driver’s medical certification for up to 60 days after the date the medical examiner’s certificate was issued.

According to the FMCSA, this action supports drivers and carriers as state driver’s licensing agencies and certified medical examiners continue to transition to the secure electronic transmission of medical certification data required under the National Registry II (NRII) final rule.
FMCSA said it determined that modifying the initial waiver prevents undue hardship on drivers with valid medical certification and their employers due to potential processing delays outside of their control during this transition period.
FMCSA also said it recommends that certified medical examiners continue issuing paper medical examiner’s certificates (Form MCSA-5876) to drivers, in addition to submitting examination results electronically, until further notice.

Michigan-based Koleasco, Inc. acquired
OneCompass Holdings, an Ohio-based investment firm, has acquired the assets of Koleaseco, Inc., an asset-based transportation provider in operation for more than 30 years.
Based in Hudsonville, Michigan, Koleaseco has 128 vehicles and 148 drivers.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Upon closing, Koleaseco will operate as part of Hyway Trucking, a division of Hyway Transportation, one of OneCompass’s portfolio companies. This strategic acquisition enhances Hyway Transportation’s operational footprint and expands its service capabilities throughout the Midwest and beyond, according to a statement from the companies.
