One current recall targets over 4,000 trucks for light-related problems and another is for a modest number of trucks with turn signal issues.
Navistar is recalling more than 4,000 trucks, with model years dating back as far as 2001, for an issue with the trucks’ lights, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents.
The NHTSA said the recall applies to about 4,030 model year 2001-’03 International 9100i; 2004-’09 International 9200i; 2009, 2011-’12, 2017 International ProStar; and 2021 International RH trucks.
The recall said in those trucks the backup lights offer only low visibility when the trucks are in reverse while bobtailing. The vehicles also were not equipped with additional unobstructed backup lights, according to the NHTSA.
Dealers will replace the existing rear stop/turn signal lights, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 17.

In the other recall, Daimler Trucks North America is recalling some 47 model year 2023 Western Star 57X trucks. The NHTSA said the interior turn signals in these trucks may flash too quickly and not align with the exterior turn signal flashing.
Interior turn signals that consistently flash too quickly may not change their flash rate to alert the driver to replace the bulbs.
The remedy is currently under development, according to the NHTSA recall order.
