A YouTube user recently shared video featuring a smoking semi truck with major flames shooting from both stacks.
The runaway diesel video was shared by YouTube user Texas Adventurer on August 23, 2023.
In the video, you can see a moving semi truck come to a stop on what appears to be an access road as smoke pours out from under the hood and flames erupt from the stacks.
Many commenters shared their two cents about how the driver should have handled the situation.
“I would put it in first gear and hit all the brakes until the vehicle and engine stopped together in a stall. Of course, using a higher gear would be better but 18 wheels of braking power ought to do it in first gear even with full throttle,” said one YouTube user.
“Yeah, that’s when you grab your wallet and phone, unhook the trailer, roll the truck clear, and get the hell clear of the blast radius,” another person said.
“One thing is for certain, you don’t want to be near a runaway diesel. If lucky they just eventually seize up, it’s when they start and throw rods and other parts that it gets really ugly. Of course the REAL lucky outcome is you manage to stop it somehow…but the damage is normally done pretty quickly,” another commenter pointed out.
