Kathy Graham, a resilient 48-year-old woman, has defied the odds by becoming one of Australia’s few female truck drivers after escaping a traumatic past filled with domestic violence. Only 3% of truck drivers in the country are women, according to government statistics.
Battling through Adversity
Haunted by a harrowing past, Kathy decided to reclaim control of her life by joining a special truck driving program targeted at women. Despite facing skepticism from her peers and encountering numerous challenges, she refused to be deterred.
“I’ve always been determined to prove my worth and show that I can do anything I set my mind to,” Kathy said, her voice steady and resolute.

Kathy’s unwavering determination paid off when she secured a position with a major transportation company. She now takes immense pride in cruising along the open road, feeling empowered and free.
“Driving these massive trucks gives me a sense of accomplishment and independence that I never thought possible,” Kathy shared, her eyes shining with newfound confidence.

Hailing from KwaZulu-Natal, 27-year-old Nosihle Mohunu became an instant local hero after driving a Shoprite truck through her hometown of Keate’s Drift. The young woman has also gained popularity on TikTok for her impressive skills behind the wheel of a heavy-duty, 22-wheeler vehicle.
“I want to be a source of motivation for other young women in my community,” Nosihle said with a proud smile. “By showing them that we can succeed in male-dominated industries, I hope to inspire them to chase their dreams and never give up.”
