WILLMAR
— Willmar trucking company 6th Street Logistics is expanding through the use of the Southwest Initiative Foundation’s Microenterprise Loan Program.
According to a news release from the foundation, 6th Street Logistics was founded in 2021 with a single semitractor. The company now has a fleet of trucks which haul goods including live birds and refrigerated goods, running routes locally, within the Midwest and down to Texas.
Owners Krista and Chris Nehk have years of experience in the industry. Krista Nehk has worked in temperature-controlled transportation for more than two decades. Chris Nehk has traveled more than a million miles as a driver and has experience as a fleet manager and dispatcher.
“6th Street Logistics got its name because that is where the dream of owning a trucking business came alive, our first home on 6th Street in Willmar,” Krista Nehk said in the news release. “It started out with a semi that we purchased for $2,500, restored by Chris and his supporters and put on the road; the rest is history.”
Today, the company is located at 7400 County Road 9 Northeast just outside Willmar.
The funds provided by the
Southwest Initiative Foundation
will go toward growing their refrigerated and dry van hauling operations. As beneficiaries of the program, 6th Street Logistics will also be provided with technical assistance from the Southwest Initiative Foundation, which could range from business planning and marketing to various types of training.
The microloan program receives funding assistance from the U.S. Small Business Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
