A woman was rescued at an Ohio truck stop after being held against her will inside a truck cab by her husband.
The incident occurred at the Love’s Travel Center at 107 FM 2025 in Cleveland, Texas at around 2:50 p.m.
According to The Vindicator, A woman approached a Love’s employee inside the store to request more towels. During the interaction, the woman passed the employee a note that read “Please help, call police, husband holding me against my will.” The employee contacted police, who waited until the couple left the shower area to confront the male truck driver and separate him from the woman.
The male truck driver was identified as 44-year-old Gregg Alvin Prewitt, and was found to have a felony warrant for Assault/Family Violence – Impeding Breath, out of Wise County. Prewitt was then taken into custody.
The 44-year-old woman then spoke with police and told them that she had been with Prewitt for eight years and had often traveled with him in his truck. She said that she had tried to leave the relationship, and Prewitt responded by chaining her to the bed inside the sleeper of the rig so that she could not leave. She said this had been going on for a period of time and that she had been unable to seek help until she slipped the note to the Love’s employee.
Officers then inspected the semi truck and found the chains that had been used to restrain the woman.
Prewitt has been charged with Unlawful Restraint, a third degree felony. He is being held at the Cleveland Police Department jail on $50,000 bond.
