ZEELAND, MI — A vacant lot on the south side of Riley Street in Zeeland Township is well on its way to being home to a new building.
The new facility, at 3114 84th Ave., is situated off Riley Street and between 80th and 84th Avenues.
RM Trucking, currently based in Allendale, is building a 35,500-square-foot facility in Zeeland Township to service and house its long-distance trucking company.
It will have two truck washing bays, six bays for truck repairs and 20 on-site employees.
The Zeeland site will become the new location for RM Trucking, which will move its operations from Allendale to the 84th Avenue location once construction is completed.
Plans for the new building were approved by the Zeeland Township planning commission in June 2022. The building will include six offices, two conference rooms, a dispatch center, two break rooms, several bathrooms and a drivers lounge. There will be a large 7,000-square-foot mezzanine on the second floor.
The facility is being built on a 13.85-acre lot, which will feature several parking lots, multiple storm water detention basins, an 80-foot-tall flagpole and a truck fueling station.
In total, the project includes 72 truck parking spaces, 71 trailer storage spaces and 38 regular vehicle parking spots. The portion of the property facing Riley Street will have a 6-foot-tall decorative security fence.
RM Trucking specializes in long-distance, refrigerated trucking logistics. The company, founded in 1981, is now run by Scott DeBoer, the nephew of the company’s founders.
The company provides GPS status updates and advanced computer tracking systems along with dispatch capabilities for its trucks. The refrigerated trailers haul products like fresh cut flowers, produce, meats and cheeses and dry goods.
