TACOMA 10/6/2023 – Tacoma police have made two arrests in the fatal shooting of Charlie Park, the beloved owner of neighborhood convenience shop The Little Store on South Ainsworth Avenue.
The 16-year-old and 18-year-old male suspects were booked into the Pierce County Jail on Friday for two counts of assault in the first degree, one count of robbery in the first degree, and one count of assault in the second degree.
With the assistance of the Washington State Patrol Crime Laboratory, detectives were able to develop probable cause to arrest the 18-year-old robbery suspect for one count of murder in the first degree related to the shooting of Park.
Just after 1 p.m. on Oct. 3, South Sound 911 received a call about a possible shooting in the 3500 block of South Ainsworth. Officers arrived and located Park who appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound. Officers immediately began life-saving measures. The Tacoma Fire Department arrived a short time later and pronounced him deceased.
Detectives and crime scene technicians arrived and investigated the incident as a homicide.
Just after 2 p.m. on Oct. 4, two suspects entered a convenience store in the 3400 block of Pacific Ave. One suspect pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded they get onto the floor. The suspects grabbed several items from the store and fled on foot.
Two customers observed the suspects leave the store and followed in their vehicle. At one point, the community members in their vehicle yelled at the suspects to stop. One of the suspects turned and fired a gun at the vehicle, striking it. A short time later, officers located both suspects and took them into custody.
