Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash on M-81 at Colwood Road in Tuscola County’s Almer Township around 10:48 a.m. on Friday, according to a post on the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
According to the post, a commercial pickup truck driven by a 28-year-old Vassar man was traveling west on M-81 when he began to turn north on Colwood Road. A westbound beet hauler traveling behind the pickup on M-81 could not stop in time to avoid a crash.
The driver of the beet hauler, a 58-year-old Harbor Beach man, attempted to avoid a collision by driving around the pickup, which was already making a right turn. The pickup struck the side of the beet hauler, causing the semi to roll on its side and spill sugar beets onto the roadway.
The beet truck driver and a passenger in the pickup truck, a 50-year-old man from the Caro area, were injured and then transported to an area hospital for treatment by MMR.
