This week, three Canadian companies have appointed senior leadership in sales: Stacey Jenkins is a new sales and marketing director at Thomson Terminals, Jeff Madura joined Vicinity Motor, and Ben Stiller took on a new position as a senior account executive at National Truck League.
Meanwhile, a HyLife driver brings home double awards from Manitoba Trucking Association, and the Truckload Carriers Association has named Jeff McKinney as its professional of the year during its 43rd Annual Safety & Security Meeting.
Hylife driver wins two MTA awards
Mario Bulacso, a veteran livestock driver for HyLife, has been honored with two awards: the 2024 MTA-Volvo Trucks Canada Manitoba Driver of the Year Award and the Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) Inland Industry Excellence Award.
These honors are presented to professional truck drivers who excel in performance, safety, and community service, recognizing Mario’s commitment to the industry and animal welfare.
“Mario is an excellent choice this year. He prioritizes safety and animal care, is a cheerleader for the industry, and a great ambassador,” said Aaron Dolyniuk, MTA’s executive director, in a news release.
“His efforts to support other drivers are what trucking is about: helping each other and working together to get the job done safely. He embodies everything we talk about as key components of our industry: safety, community, care, and professionalism.”
According to the release, Bulasco has become a key figure on the road with more than 18 years of experience in the hog industry. For the past two years, he has served as a HyLife Driver Representative and fostered a supportive community among drivers.
“I like to help new drivers hauling livestock every day,” said Bulacso. “My wife opened the letter, and she was very happy. She said, ‘You deserve that!’ I said, ‘Maybe I do.’ She knows how hard I work every day answering the phone and helping drivers.”
Jenkins takes on sales and marketing director role
Stacey Jenkins was appointed as the new director of sales and marketing at Thomson Terminals. He has been with the company for nearly three decades, starting his journey at 1995 as a highway dispatch executive and became a traffic manager in 2015.
Overall, Jenkins has more than 35 years of experience in transportation and operations. Throughout the years, he has also served as the president of the Toronto Trucking Association, and he is a current board member of the Ontario Trucking Association and contributes as a committee member of the Montreal Traffic Club.
Madura joins Vicinity Motor as senior sales director
Jeff Madura has joined B.C.-based Vicinity Motor as a senior director of sales, the company announced in a news release.
Madura has more than 29 years of experience in the transit bus industry as a general manager of national teams focused on bus sales, business development, alternative fuels and zero-emission vehicles, technical sales, and dealer sales.
Prior to joining Vicinity, he was director of public sector sales for North America at Van Hool NV of Belgium, where he led the strategic development of Van Hool’s North American transit and motorcoach markets and directed the company’s interest in alternative fuels and zero-emission vehicles, Vicinity said in a release. Previously, Madura led Master’s Transportation’s municipal and government sales team as director. His other experience includes leadership roles at Colonial Equipment, Stallion Bus, and Daimler Chrysler Bus North America.
Stiller’s new role at National Truck League
Ben Stiller took on a new position as a senior account executive at National Truck League – A Westland Company. Stiller brings years to experience to the new role, having worked for the company for nearly 10 years. He joined in 2015 a data integrity specialist. For the past five years in the company, he held a role of director of marketing and business development.
“This role change will allow me to dedicate more time to building new and existing relationships in the Canadian transportation industry,” Stiller wrote in his post on LinkedIn. “Those who know me understand my deep passion for the Canadian trucking industry and the incredible people involved in it, I love spending my days collaborating with the trucking industry to solve problems and manage their risk.”
TCA names its Safety Professional of the Year Award
Jeff McKinney, the vice-president of safety at Jetco Delivery, has been honored with the 2024 Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) Safety Professional of the Year Award, which recognizes McKinney’s significant contributions to enhancing safety on North America’s highways.
With more than 25 years in the trucking industry, McKinney has a rich background that includes starting as a driver and night warehouse manager, progressing through various safety-focused roles, significantly reducing accident rates, and enhancing safety protocols across organizations.
McKinney’s career in safety management began at Werner Enterprises in 1994, where he rose from a company driver to a safety supervisor, managing DOT compliance and safety meetings. His tenure at Jetco Delivery since 2007 has been marked by successful initiatives such as the early adoption of e-logs, which helped cut accident frequency by 50%. His efforts have not only improved Jetco’s safety record but also contributed to regional road safety, reducing distracted driving, commercial vehicle, and intersection crashes.
