Trucker’s shaking hands lead to discovery of smuggled migrants

A truck driver’s shaking hands led to the discovery of three migrants inside of his sleeper as he attempted to cross into Texas late last week. 

The incident occurred on February 22nd at 7:30 p.m. at the Interstate 35 border checkpoint in Texas. 

According to Laredo Morning Times, truck driver Carlos Guadalupe Ramirez-Marin had shaking hands when he handed his border crossing card to border patrol agents. The shaking hands made agents suspicious, so they brought in a k9 agent, who alerted them to possible contraband inside of the commercial vehicle. 

Agents then asked Ramirez-Marin if he was alone in the truck. Ramirez-Marin responded with a “no.” Agents then inspected the cab of the truck and discovered three migrants inside of the sleeper berth. 

Ramirez-Marin was taken into custody and told investigators during a post-arrest interview that he had called a co-worker involved in the smuggling of migrants back in Mexico to arrange the smuggling. He said he was already delivering a load of tile to Dallas, Texas, and expected an extra $7,500 for smuggling the migrants.
