See something, say something. It’s a simple concept, and one that has helped make roadways safer for a while. If you see someone driving erratically or recklessly, you should report it – even if that person is yourself.
A trucker in Pennsylvania recently put this into action. According to a Pennsylvania State Police report, the driver was recently cited for possession and driving under the influence after calling 911 on himself.
Officials said the incident occurred on April 29 near Punxsutawney, Penn., when dispatch received two separate reports about the same truck traveling on Route 28.
The first report came from a witness who said a maroon tractor-trailer was driving erratically and creeping along at about 5 mph. Troopers said the caller was concerned the truck would cause a crash.
Within minutes, another call came in, this time from the driver of the truck. Troopers said he told them he was “high on cocaine and methamphetamine” and needed to be arrested. Naturally, they obliged.
That’s all the information officials provided, declining to name the suspect and identifying him only as a 50-year-old man from Gouldsboro, Penn. The report did not address what prompted the driver to call 911 on himself.
This trucker’s tale isn’t the only recent example of motorists being a little too truthful with law enforcement.
Earlier this month, the Arizona Highway Patrol reported that a trooper pulled over a passenger vheicle for going 108 mph in a 65-mph zone. According to the trooper, the driver said she was speeding because she “was trying to get home fast” to watch the reality TV show “Love Island”.
Unfortunately for the driver, trying to make it home in time to catch your favorite show isn’t a good enough reason to nearly double the speed limit. Officials said the driver was arrested and booked for criminal speeding and reckless driving, and her vehicle was sent to “car jail” for 20 days. LL
