An SA man was seriously injured when he was hit by a car while retrieving an item that had fallen from his vehicle onto a motorway north of Adelaide on Friday.
Two other cars then slammed into the vehicle which had halted after hitting the man.
A 56-year-old Urrbrae man was driving his truck on the North-South Motorway at Globe Derby Park just before 5pm when a toolbox lid fell from his truck onto the road, SA police said.

He stopped his truck on the side of the road, got out of the vehicle and walked to the middle of the road to retrieve the lid when he was struck by a Nissan sedan.
“A white Holden Cruze sedan then collided with the rear of the Nissan, then a blue Holden Commodore sedan collided with the rear of the Cruze,” SA Police said.
“All of the vehicles stopped at the scene and were later towed away, with the Nissan towed for forensic examination.”
The Urrbrae man was transported to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a serious condition.
The driver of the Nissan, an 18-year-old Mitcham woman, was also taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
The motorway was shut down for several hours following the crash, but has since re-opened.
