Calcasieu Parish — Two men from Orange, one driving a truck and the other a motorcycle, died in separate crashes Sunday in Calcasieu Parish.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Officer says deputies responded to a single vehicle accident at about 3 a.m. Sunday on Green Moore Road near Doyle Cemetery Road in Starks.
The initial investigation revealed a truck driver was traveling north on Green Moore Road when he crossed the centerline, running off the roadway and striking a tree. The driver of the truck, Shawn D. Dreyer, 21, of Orange, died at the scene. The passenger of the truck was flown to a local hospital with serious injuries and is in critical condition.
Shawn Dreyer was a Deweyville High School graduate. The school posted photos of Shawn and a statement on its Facebook page:
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of our fallen Pirate, Shawn Dreyer. Once A Pirate, Always a Pirate.”
The crash is under investigation but CPSO says speed appears to be a factor. Seatbelt use is unknown at this time. As mandated by state law, a toxicology report will be conducted.
Shortly after 1:00 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a motorcycle crash on Green Island Road in Starks.
The initial investigation revealed the driver was traveling north on Green Island Road when he failed to make it around a curve, causing the motorcycle to run off the roadway. The driver Rick J. Hampton, 37, of Orange, was ejected from the motorcycle. He died at the scene.
The fatality is still under investigation, but CPSO says speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. As mandated by state law, a toxicology report will be conducted.
