PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) — A deadly train derailment has closed portions of Interstate 25 in North Pueblo. Colorado State Patrol says the semi-truck driver caught under the derailment has died. Their identity has not been released at this time.
According to the Pueblo West Fire Chief, I-25 is closed from mile marker 104 to mile marker 108 in both directions. Traffic is being diverted to Highway 115 for northbound drivers heading to Colorado Springs. Troopers have set up a detour for those driving southbound at mile marker 110. Drivers are being rerouted to Old Pueblo Road.
All signs point to the train traveling westbound over the bridge on I-25 before it fell through it onto the highway. Large amounts of coal can be seen on the bridge and road as emergency crews work to clear it and reopen it as soon as possible.
Troopers say there were no other injuries connected to the train derailment.
Expect major delays if you are driving through Pueblo in either direction.
There is no timetable at this time on when the interstate will reopen.
