NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Metro Nashville police are working to solve a mysterious murder. Officers found a truck driver shot inside his rig outside a Nashville truck stop.
Officers said the driver, 37-year-old David White, was killed inside his truck parked on the road outside the Trinity Lane Love’s. He was last seen getting food from the truck stop at about 7:20 p.m. Sunday.
“Unfortunately, these things happen all over,” truck driver Kareem Sears said. “We are certainly not exempt from the madness that’s going on around our nation. In this area, it was very shocking. I know in other places in Tennessee I hear about this happening to truckers. Sticking truckers up and possibly killing them and stuff like that.”
Sears said truckers are often targeted, but he considered Nashville to be a safe place to park your truck and then sightsee and go out on the town. He parked along the road where the shooting happened on Tuesday without knowing what had happened there.
“It bugged me out,” Sears said. “I couldn’t believe it because normally you don’t hear about stuff like that right here in Nashville.”
The Illinois-based trucking company, KA Logistics Inc., White worked for said they are working with police through the investigation and have started to step up security measures to protect their other drivers. They called MNPD for a wellness check when they could not reach White on Monday.
“David was not just a member of the KA Logistics Inc. team; he was a dedicated professional, a reliable colleague, and a friend to many within our organization,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “His unwavering commitment to his responsibilities and his positive demeanor left a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of working alongside him.”
Drivers like Sears said they always lock their doors and have other security measures to make sure they stay safe. He is going to be paying extra attention to his surroundings until the police can make an arrest.
“You’ve got to go with your gut,” Sears said. “If you don’t feel safe, leave immediately. That is what I do. I go with my instinct, and I leave immediately. I try to pick a safe haven as much as possible, but if I don’t feel safe, I get out of here.”
Anyone with information about White’s death is asked to call Nashville Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers can remain anonymous and qualify for a $5,000 cash reward.
