A truck driver has been charged following a serious crash on the Riverina Highway.
Police said emergency services responded to reports of a crash involving a truck towing a trailer and a utility along the Riverina Highway, Splitters Creek, about 8 km west of Albury shortly before 7 am on Monday (24 June).
The 64-year-old utility driver was trapped in the vehicle until he was released by emergency services personnel.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated him at the scene before he was taken to Albury Hospital in a critical condition.
The 51-year-old truck driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital for mandatory testing before being taken to Albury Police Station.
Officers from the Murry River Police District established a crime scene that was later examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.
Police allege that the truck was towing a telehandler (a vehicle used in construction and agriculture) when the trailer rolled, causing the load to come loose from the trailer and collide with the utility.
The truck driver was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner danger, negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm) and towing a vehicle when unsafe.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Albury Local Court on Wednesday 17 July 2024.
