HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A 55-year-old man was arrested during an operation targeting child exploitation on April 6.
Russell D. Barney of Safford, AZ, was charged with criminal attempt/illegal asexual contact with minor under 16, second-degree criminal attempt/sexual assault, first-degree illegal possession of child pornography, and promoting a minor for obscene performance.
Undercover law enforcement personnel assumed the identity of a 15-year-old juvenile. Throughout the online discussions, Barnet shared explicit pornographic images with the detective and consented to sexual relations with the 15-year-old.
Working as a cross county semi-truck driver, Barney agreed to meet at a service station in Hartford.
As Barney approached the undercover car, Hartford police officers and federal agents surrounded and arrested him.
During the course of the investigation, they found that Barney was in possession of child pornography.
He was later transported to the Detention Division for processing.
