Indore: Betma police on Tuesday arrested the accused truck driver, who was involved in the accident which claimed eight lives, including a woman, on May 16. Eight people were killed after their four-wheeler had hit a stationary heavy vehicle on Indore-Ahmedabad four-lane near Betma. They were residents of Guna and were on their way from Dhar to Guna via Indore when the accident took place. The accident took place on a straight road and the second vehicle was not found. DSP Umakant Choudhary said that they sifted through CCTV footage of the nearby areas and toll plazas and the accused truck driver was identified as Khartaram, resident of Badmer in Rajasthan. A team traced the location of the accused to Rajasthan and he was arrested and brought to Indore. The accused has been booked for driving negligently and under culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The accused told police that the vehicle was being taken from Anand in Gujarat to Kanpur with tobacco when the accident took place. tnn
