Truck driver Kahyl Smith was behind the wheel of his semi-truck with his dash camera on when a mundane Monday turned into mayhem. “It was just scary,” Smith said. The dash camera on his truck captured one car attempting to pass a second car on the right. It crashed into the second car, then flipped. The gray car lost control and hit a tree, while the first car ended up on its roof, ejecting the driver. It happend near Port Washington and Vienna avenues. “She tried to go around the gray car. She kinda bounced off the curb and then ran right into the rear side of the car, almost like a pit maneuver,” Smith said. The video then shows the car spinning out of control upside down in the street. “Oh, man. Front windshield was smashed up, side of it was banged up. Airbags was all out,” Smith said. Smith said he jumped out of his truck and ran to help. The 75-year-old driver of the second car was visibly shaken and the 27-year-old driver of the first car was badly bleeding from her head. “I didn’t know if she was alright. To see somebody get ejected from her car like that, it was pretty bad. I didn’t know that she was ejected from the car until I got past my truck there. Then walking back, she was already laid out in the road,” Smith said, “I was just hoping for the best for her.”Smith said children’s clothing fell out of the first car during the crash.”My first question was, are your kids in a car? Because it was kids’ clothes all scattered across the street. She was coherent. She said, no, the kids weren’t in the car,” Smith said. Smith said he stayed with her until the ambulance arrived. Milwaukee police said both drivers went to the hospital with non-fatal injuries. “I was just glad I was able to help out,” Smith said. Polyak Trucking out of Waukesha County recognized Smith on social media for his quick thinking. Smith told WISN 12 News reporter Kendall Keys that he sees reckless driving “almost every day.”Milwaukee police said it cited the 27-year-old driver of the blue car that tried passing in the parking lane with reckless driving.
