A transport truck driver has been charged with impaired driving.
Yesterday morning (Oct 22), James Bay OPP were called to a single-vehicle crash involving a commercial motor vehicle on Highway 11 in McCoig Township, about 100 kilometres west of Hearst.
“Officers arrived on scene and spoke with driver who had sustained non-life threatening injuries. The driver was transported to a hospital in Hearst via ambulance. It was determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol, and further testing was conducted at the hospital,” reads an OPP news release.
A 46-year-old man from Nepean is charged with operation while impaired, driving a commercial motor vehicle in contravention of conditions, careless driving, fail to notify change of address, and driver fail to wear seat belt properly.
The accused has a court date in Hearst on Dec. 6.
Another incident that happened on Highway 11 also led to charges yesterday.
Around 2 a.m., OPP responded to a single-vehicle crash in Moonbeam.
When officers got to the scene, there was a highly damaged vehicle, but the driver was not there.
“The driver was located after a subsequent police investigation, and upon speaking with the driver, officers determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol.” said police.
A 55-year-old man from Moonbeam is charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), two counts of failure to comply with an undertaking, breach of recognizance, fail to report accident, fail to remain, and driving while under suspension.
The accused was released from police custody and is slated to appear in court on Nov. 20 in Kapuskasing.
None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
