The Durban Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is appealing for assistance from members of the public in locating a wanted suspect after a woman was held at gunpoint and thereafter became a victim of sexual assault.
According to Sydenham SAPS communications officer, Cnst Busisiwe Phungula on Monday, September 25, 2023, at approximately 7:30pm, the victim was driving on the M19 when she drove over a vehicle tyre that was lying on the road.

As she was driving, the tyre became stuck under her vehicle, forcing her to stop on the yellow lane to assess the damage to her vehicle.
“Upon checking, she noticed that two tow trucks were driving slowly in her direction. She flagged the first one down and both tow trucks stopped and assisted her by removing the tyre from her vehicle. The first tow truck then drove off and the second driver remained with the complainant. The male gave the complainant his cellphone number for future roadside assistance. The male then went back to his tow truck and the complainant got inside her vehicle and switched the ignition on,” she said.
As she was about to drive off, she noticed the same man walking towards her vehicle with a firearm in his hand.
“The male then opened the passenger door and pointed the firearm at her, instructing her to go to the back seat. He then removed his pants and then penetrated her,” added Cnst Phungula.
A sexual assault case was opened at Sydenham SAPS and, the docket was transferred to the Durban Central FCS Unit for further investigation.

The suspect is described as an Indian male, between the ages of 30 and 35 and was driving an Isuzu tow truck.
