PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio (WKBN) – A truck driver doing a preinspection check in Portage County came across an unsuspecting stow away in his wheel well.
As the Ohio State Highway Patrol said in an X post about the rescue, “it was a meow-velous rescue of a kitten stuck in a semi’s wheel well. This seemingly im-paw-sible rescue mission had a happy ending…thanks to the purrfect teamwork by all on scene!”
It happened May 14 on the Ohio Turnpike in Portage County as the commercial truck driver was doing a check of his vehicle and located the kitten between two tires.
Troopers, workers and machinery were called in to help the truck driver.
“It’s holding on with its claws,” the driver said.
Then, a plan was made and the crew went to work.
“It’s going to ride that hub on the way out and then I’m going to lean it this way, so you guys got to be ready to go in there and catch it. Everybody got gloves on?” One helper said.
Not one, but two wheels were removed to get to the kitten, which was safely rescued and turned over to Portage County Animal Welfare.
“It was probably she just was trying to find a place to hide,” a representative from animal welfare said. “Thankfully, you found her before you drove off.”
Not only did the driver’s safety check save the kitten’s life, but it also brought others together on a mission to make sure the rescue was successful.
